Burzynski Review
By David Kempler
Cancer Cure or Paranoia?
"Burzynski" is a documentary whose premise is that a physician figured out the cure for cancer over 30 years ago, and the big bad government and the equally bad drug companies have been suppressing him and his cure. Before discussing the film, let me say that I'm not certain whether or not to believe the claims being made. Of course, I want to believe it. Who doesn't harbor paranoid fantasies about how "the man" is screwing us over in one way or another. Let alone that there's a cure for cancer.
In the 1970s Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, who is an MD and has a PhD in biochemistry, discovered Antineoplastons, which he maintains can cure some of the most incurable terminal cancers. Sounds great. Does it work? I'm not sure, but according to some of the people he has cured there can be little doubt that Burzynski is one of the most important people in the history of modern medicine.
However, every step of the way, he has been involved in a literal life-and-death struggle with the FDA and our government. In every single case, Dr. Burzynski has prevailed. Every single one. This has got to make you stop and really consider that perhaps he is the real deal. Why else would they keep going after him? And why does he keep winning the cases against him?
There is one major and glaring problem with the film and that is that they treat their audience like we are a bunch of ignorant dunces, incapable of digesting anything deeper than a thimble. The most egregious example of this is the constant posting of documents pertinent to the legal cases being examined. The documents are blown up so that they can be easily read on the screen, yet for some reason the narrator constantly reads the underlined and highlighted text. I'm not talking about this happening once or twice. It occurs on at least ten different occasions. It's bad filmmaking and reminds me of how lessons were taught in the third grade.
So it's up to you to decide whether or not you'd like to get all lathered up about one of the greatest injustices ever perpetrated on the world by the authorities, assuming that it is an accurate depiction. I've searched the Internet looking for material debunking the claims made in "Burzynski" and found nothing of merit, so I'm going to choose to believe the message. What do you think?
