It's fun to get back to nature -- for about 10 minutes or so. We love being outside when it comes to burgers and a little Marco Polo. However, we start to miss all of our audio, video and other types of electronic goodies.
Having some type of networking setup can hook you up to the web in other rooms, but that home network can be kind of shaky beyond the actual walls of the home. Now, you can have the best of both worlds (meaning the indoor world and the outdoor world) with something like Legrand's DA2131-V1 Outdoor 802.11n Wireless Access Point (WAP).
That lengthy name belongs to an outdoor wireless access point, which was just announced at this week's CEDIA Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. According to Legrand, this one slim product packs in all of the security you'd want in a high-quality WAP, including 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and 802.1x authority, as well as MAC filtering, SSID broadcast control, static and dynamic IP addressing.
Oh, it's also completely weatherproof.
Legrand also says that because of the unit's design, it doesn't even need to be by a power outlet. Instead, it has a Power over Ethernet injector and AC power adapter.
"Outdoor entertainment and automation is an important part of so many of our customers' lifestyles," said Fritz Werder, vice president and brand general manager for Legrand's Home Systems division. "But unfortunately, until now, all too often the mobile devices that are such an integral component of entertainment and control have been tethered to an indoor wireless network. Our new Outdoor WAP tears breaks down the barriers that have kept the network captive and extends the streaming, surfing, and control experience throughout our customers' properties."
Legrand is selling its DA2131-V1 Outdoor 802.11n Wireless Access Point now, via authorized dealers.
