D-Link keeps bulking up its Boxee Box offerings. The company says that its oddly shaped set-top box is now offering SlingPlayer as one of its app options. That means that you can use one of Sling Media's devices to stream your home TV lineup and DVR to any TV connected to a Boxee Box.
Just connect either the Slingbox SOLO (MSRP: $179.99) or the Slingbox PRO-HD (MSRP: $299.99) to your home TV. The Boxee Box does not have to be connected to the same TV. That actually connects to any other TV. Then load the SlingPlayer app to the Boxee Box, and it will appear in the Boxee app menu. From there, you can use the Boxee Box remote control to watch live TV, change channels, control DVRs, and more. The app also includes Sling Media's new program guide.
D-Link says that SlingPlayer for Boxee Box is currently being offered for free during its introductory period. That probably means they will be charging sometime in the future, so soak up the goodness now -- while it's free!
Of course, the Boxee Box offers a ton of other apps, as well as a full web browser, full HD streaming from the Internet, social networking, and much more.
"The addition of SlingPlayer greatly expands the content and capabilities of the Boxee Box by D-Link and brings today's connected home to yet another level," said Daniel Kelley, D-Link's associate VP of marketing. "Missing your favorite show or game is a thing of the past. With SlingPlayer, people can easily enjoy and access their TV content with the ultimate convenience, from changing the channel to controlling the DVR."
The Boxee Box by D-Link comes with a double-sided remote featuring a built-in QWERTY keyboard, making on-screen navigation easy. It also has an SD card slot, two USB ports, optical digital audio, HDMI output, an Ethernet port, and Wi-Fi support. The Boxee Box by D-Link is available now with an MSRP of $179. SlingPlayer for Boxee Box is currently only available in the U.S.
