Boston Acoustics was cranking out soundbars before it was a big deal. However, that doesn't mean that the company isn't always looking to offer something new.
Earlier today, Boston Acoustics announced the new TVee One Television Speaker Base, the latest in the company's TVee line. However, this model isn't designed for the wall or a shelf. It can put your TV on a pedestal -- literally. That's because the TVee One is designed to crank sound from directly under your TV.
That speaker cabinet can hold up to 60 pounds. Inside, however, the two-way speaker has 0.5-inch tweeters and 2-by-5-inch woofers. It also has Dolby Digital decoding via Boston's Digitally Optimized Virtual Surround (DOVS) and Bluetooth, so you can stream content to the speaker from a smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth-enabled device.
The TVee One has five different sound modes, including Movie or Movie Wide for movies with Dolby and DTS tracks, Music and Music Wide for music, and the Dialog mode for TV shows, newscasts and sporting events. There's also a Night Mode, which enables high-fidelity sound while minimizing the jumps in volume, so you won't wake up the entire house.
Other features include BassTrac patented circuitry, as well as optical, coax and analog inputs. It also boasts an easy installation with just one cable. Also, even though it comes with a remote, it can learn your existing TV remote's control commands.
"As today's flat-panel TVs get thinner and thinner, so does their sound quality," said Paul Belanger, product manager for Boston Acoustics. "The new TVee One offers consumers a simple way to raise their televisions' audio performance to the same high level as the video -- creating a more powerful and enjoyable home-theater environment in any room. The TVee One is designed to hold medium to large flat-screen TVs and offers a host of high-performance components to deliver intense, enveloping sound."
Measuring less than 3 inches tall, the TVee One comes with a TV speaker base, a remote, a detachable power cord, an optical digital audio cable, a 1/8-inch stereo analog audio cable and a 1/8-inch to RCA cable adapter. Boston Acoustics has priced the speaker system at $299.
