Soundbars are gaining a pretty hearty audience. That's because these types of products offer an easy way to add audio into the everyday TV experience. Now, are they as awesome as a full 5.1-channel (or higher!) home theater system? Of course, not. However, most TV speakers sound terrible and we love it when anything gets a little audio boost.
Boston Acoustics agrees, so they just announced a few additions to company's popular soundbar selection. Today, we were introduced to the new TVee 10 Soundbar and the TVee 26 Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer package.
The TVee 10 Soundbar is an easy and extremely affordable way to enhance your TV's audio. Measuring 3.5 inches high and 3 inches deep, the TVee 10 pairs up nicely with TVs that are 32 inches and up -- and all via a one-wire hookup.
This product doesn't need a receiver, because the TVee 10 packs in Dolby Digital decoding and Boston Acoustics' own Digitally Optimized Virtual Surround (DOVS) processing, as well as its own built-in 30-watt amplifier. Boston Acoustics says that the unit doesn't even need a subwoofer!
Inside, the unit has "HHRT" (Hyperbolic High Rigidity Transducer) driver technology, two 2-by-5-inch drivers, and BassTrac circuitry. Also, the TVee 10's frequency range is rated at 70Hz to 20kHz. Other features include integrated keyhole-style wall mounts and touch-sensitive front controls, as well as digital and optical analog inputs, and a mini stereo AUX input.
If you want to add a little extra oomph to that compact setup, the TVee 26 Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer is a nice little upgrade. It's almost identical to the unit above, except that it offers total system power of 150 watts (RMS) and a frequency range of 40Hz to 20kHz. Of course, it also has that subwoofer that's mentioned right in the product name. The one that's paired with this package's soundbar has a 6.5-inch down-firing bass driver. It's also completely wireless, making it easy to place in the room or out of sight.
Unlike previous TVee models, both the TVee 10 and TVee 26 come packing a simple remote control. A Boston Acoustics spokesperson said that the company made the last-minute change, in response to consumer demand. However, each TVee unit will also have the "learn your remote" feature, which was included on all of the previous TVee models. This easy feature allows users to sync the soundbar with any existing remote.
Boston Acoustics just started shipping the TVee 10 Soundbar and the TVee 26 Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer. Expect to see the products priced at $199.99 and $349.99, respectively.
