Boston Acoustics Changes Soundbar Experience with Tvee Model 30

By Rachel Cericola

Boston Acoustics sure knows how to raise the bar -- the soundbar, anyway. The company is trying to change the way that we look at (and control) soundbars with its new TVee Model 30 Soundbar and Wireless Subwoofer System.

With an MSRP of $599.99, this model is designed to deliver room-filling sound from a slim, space-saving package. Editor Chris Boylan checked out its debut at the CEDIA Expo in Atlanta, and found that it offered great sound in a slim form factor.

The 3.1-channel virtual surround sound speaker delivers some of that sound through specialized modes. These include Virtual Surround for movies, Stereo Mode for music, and so on.

However, this doesn't just provide a variety of sounds, but an easy way to access it. The TVee Model 30 doesn't come with its own remote, because frankly, it doesn't need it. Instead, the system "learns" the volume controls of your current TV remote, so you don't need to add another controller into the mix. That little feature is all part of Boston's "Play Smart" approach.

Other features include one-wire analog or optical digital hookup, Dolby Digital decoding (via the digital input), and a dedicated center channel. The TVee Model 30 also has Bluetooth support, so users can stream music from an iPhone, iPod Touch, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device.

Designed to match flat-panel TVs 40 inches and larger, the TVee Model 30 includes three 3.5-inch Fiber Ceramic Copolymer Material (FCCM) mid-bass drivers, three .75-inch dome tweeters, and a 7-inch FCCM subwoofer in a tuned bandpass enclosure.

With integrated keyhole wall mounts and built-in rubber feet, the TVee Model 30 can be placed almost anywhere.
