You probably wouldn't treat your A/V equipment like a piece of furniture. However, Boston Acoustics is actually encouraging that type of behavior with its new line of NVELOP credenzas.
The company has partnered with Bassett Furniture to produce NVELOP, a credenza with a built-in 150-watt Boston Acoustics soundbar system.
Available now, the NVELOP lineup will include a total of four credenzas. The small (57 by 22 by 38 inches) and large (75 by 22 by 38 inches) Louis Philippe models will sell for $1799 and $1999, respectively. There will also be small (50 by 20 by 32 inches) and large (69 by 22 by 39 inches) Redin Park models for $1499 and $1999, respectively.
All NVELOP cabinets will feature a hidden 6-inch powered subwoofer, as well as Boston's Digitally Optimized Virtual Surround, which boasts room-filling sound from a smaller package. There's also a built-in mini-stereo jack inside a drawer, so you can connect an iPod, MP3 player, or other favorite device. Other features include vented shelves, a built-in 4-outlet power strip, an acoustically transparent cloth grille, and rubber acoustical gaskets on the back furniture panels.
Boston Acoustics says that this cabinet is extremely easy to integrate into your home setup, via a "one-wire" hookup and a soundbar that can learn your existing remote control.
This is the first time that Boston Acoustics has teamed up with a furniture company and the first time that Bassett has partnered with an audio company.
"For the first time at retail under $2,000, American families will be able to bring big sound to their family rooms while avoiding all the clutter of speakers and wires, or the expense of installing a wall mounted home theater system," said Jason Camp, Bassett Furniture's senior VP of retail. "The team at Boston Acoustics has been a superb partner and we expect our combined expertise to carve out a new territory in home entertainment."
