Amazon is inviting Star Trek fans to boldly go where they've never gone before: to the bargain bin.
The Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray is a seven-disc set, which usually lists for $139.99. However, Amazon has listed this sci-fi package as the Gold Box Deal of the Day, knocking 61 percent off the cost. That means it's $54.99, which also includes free shipping. Find out more on Amazon's main Gold Box Deal page:
The Blu-ray set includes six theatrical films: Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. There's also a "Captains' Summit" bonus disc, with a 70-minute round table that includes William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes and Whoopi Goldberg.
Besides all of the movies and that roundtable, you can get your sci-fi geek on with 2.5 hours of all-new special features, and over 12 hours of previously released content. Our own Chris Chiarella gave this set some seriously high praise saying, "This collection is a celebration of everything that made the Star Trek movies so enduring, and one giant leap for Blu-ray-kind." Just remember that this set is today's Gold Box Deal, which means that the sale will only last for one day (Thursday, June 16, 2011). That discount price also includes free Super Saver Shipping. To take advantage of this offer, just make sure to order directly from Amazon and not one of its third-party merchants. Live long and prosper, people!
