BenQ Pops Out Second-Gen Joybee G2 Portable Projector for iPod/iPhone

By Rachel Cericola

BenQ is spreading the Joybee this holiday season. The company just announced the BenQ Joybee GP2 HD Projector.

Building on the success of the GP1, this next-gen device features 720p HD-ready video capability, short-throw projection, and an integrated iPhone/iPod dock.

Weighing in at a mere 565 grams, this palm-sized projector is based on 3LED illumination and DLP projection technology. The GP2 does pick up the GP1's same black-and-white chassis. New features include 200 ANSI lumens of  brightness, 2GB of on-board storage for your own files, dedicated iPhone/iPod controls, and built-in 2-watt speakers.

Designed to do video, photos, gaming and more, the GP2 can broadcast up to 160 inches on any surface. With such a light weight, you may want to take this device on the go. If that's the case, consider adding the optional 3-hour battery pack.

Despite its small size, the Joybee GP2 has big connectivity options. It features a USB port, SD card slot, an Audio Out port, and a mini HDMI port. There's also a document viewer, for Microsoft Office and PDF documents.

"By incorporating features and benefits that mobile consumers value, the BenQ Joybee GP2 creates a unique combination of performance and flexibility," said Lars Yoder, President at BenQ America Corp. "Simply put, for consumers interested in presenting, sharing, and entertaining, the GP2 Projector offers an experience like no other mini projector."

BenQ is selling the Joybee GP2 now, with an MSRP of $699. It also comes with a remote and a new carrying case, which includes a dedicated pocket for the power adapter.
