When the iPad launched, manufacturers went into accessory mode, cranking out more products than most eyeballs (and wallets) could take. Amazon's Kindle Fire hasn't exactly sparked the same output, but Grace Digital is heating things up with its newly launched MatchStick Speaker Dock.
Previously known as the FireDock, this unit is specifically designed for use with the Kindle Fire. It can accommodate the Fire's USB port, headphone jack and power button, which are all located on the bottom of the tablet -- something we mentioned in our Kindle Fire Review.
A few of the MatchStick's features include a rotating cradle for that 7-inch tablet, as well as the option for horizontal and vertical viewing angles. It also boasts 3-inch bass-ported stereo speakers and a 16-watt Class D digital amplifier. Use it for everything from gaming and Netflix to Pandora and Amazon's audio books.
Like a lot of speaker docks, this one can also charge your portable. However, it provides that juice when in AC power mode or during use with the lithium-ion battery-pack, which will be available as a separate purchase starting in August 2012.
"There are hundreds if not thousands of Apple and universal dock accessories on the market, but we felt that Kindle Fire users really needed a specified dock for Amazon's unique tablet," says Greg Fadul, CEO of Grace Digital Audio. "This is the first quality speaker dock for Kindle Fire to be available to the millions of Fire users. Audio books, music, movies, everything just sounds stellar on the MatchStick and really allows users to benefit fully from the Fire's capabilities."
Grace Digital says that the MatchStick is now available via Amazon. Surprised? Although the online retailer is offering it at a discount, the MSRP is listed at $129.99.
