Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has had a lot of success with its CM Series. Now the company wants to share that speaker line with those short on space.
The newly announced CM8 speaker packs that well-known sound and style into a slimmer mid-tower. The company opted for the same 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter that you'd find in other CM models, saying that it's known for its extended, ultra-low-coloration treble.
Where this three-way speaker differs is that it features a 5-inch version of the CM's woven-Kevlar FST midrange unit. There are also two 5-inch low-frequency drivers, as well as the company's own Flowport anti-coloration technology.
"The new model fills an ideal slot in the CM lineup," says Doug Henderson, B&W's VP of sales and marketing. "Its proportions are simply beautiful, and it addresses limited space restrictions, while its performance, so very close to the much-admired CM9, is without peer in its category."
Designed for both music and movies, B&W says that the unit matches up nicely with the CM Center and CM1 surrounds. Available in hand-rubbed black lacquer or Wenge and Rosenut real-wood veneers, the CM8 will be available this fall for $1100 each.
