As followers of the San Diego Comic Con have noted in recent years, that biggest-convention-of-its-kind has become about much, much more than comic books, attracting exhibitors and talent from all corners of the entertainment universe. And the same is true of its littler East Coast sibling, the New York Comic Con, which kicks off to the masses today.

We were pleasantly survived by the conspicuous presence of major and mini-major film studios, represented by several fan-friendly booths at last night's limited access event, for press, VIPs and folks who simply can't get enough of this stuff. And judging by the size of the throng I observed, that group includes quite a few men and women with a lot of spare time and disposable income.

Blu-ray, DVD, videogames and cutting edge technology shared the floor with every manner of collectible we could imagine (and some we couldn't), tied into our favorite movies, TV shows and of course, all things related to graphic novels.
