Audyssey is starting to look a little square -- and we like it! The company best known for its audio processing technologies in receivers and other AV products is unleashing its own little speaker. Just look for the extremely lengthy title of the Lower East Side Audio Dock Air.
This speaker will have some nice perks. Aside from portability, the company is packing its Smart Speaker technology into the stand-alone unit. According to Audyssey, this little tech perk, combined with passive bass radiators, pretty much eliminates the need to pair the unit with a separate subwoofer. The Lower East Side Audio Dock Air also has four custom-designed drivers: two .75-inch tweeters and two 3-inch midrange speakers.
Of course, the "Air" in the product title isn't just because the speaker is lightweight. It also has the hook of support for Apple's AirPlay. So besides being able to plug in an MP3 player, you can use a computer, iPod touch, iPhone or iPad to stream iTunes content right to the Lower East Side Audio Dock Air.
"AirPlay speakers represent a huge step forward in the pursuit of wireless audio and we believe our Lower East Side Audio Dock Air will please even the most discerning listeners," said Robb Mason, Audyssey's VP of marketing. "Our Smart Speaker technology enables us to generate audio output that's simply not attainable for other manufacturers -- we're confident our new audio dock will outperform any comparably priced docking station on the market."
Inspired by the culture and history of New York's Lower East Side (hence the name), the Audyssey Lower East Audio Dock Air should start shipping in November. Expect the product to be priced around $399.
