Atlantic Technology Licenses H-PAS Speaker Tech to SpeakerCraft

By Rachel Cericola

Back in 2009, Atlantic Technology and Solus/Clements announced H-PAS, a new technology that promised super-deep bass from smaller speaker cabinets. Since then, both companies have sort of hoarded the tech for themselves. Now, they are ready to share the love -- or at least the licensing.

Today, Atlantic Technology announced an agreement with SpeakerCraft to develop new speakers based on H-PAS. The end result will be a slew of new SpeakerCraft products. While there are no specs, pricing or other details, SpeakerCraft expects to start cranking out those speakers later this year.

H-PAS, also known as Hybrid Pressure Acceleration System, combines a variety of different speaker architectures, such as acoustic suspension, bass reflex, inverse horn, and transmission line. That construction boasts deep bass response and low distortion inside a compact enclosure. Philip Clements of Solus/Clements developed the H-PAS configuration, before taking it to Atlantic and getting a patent.

Since the technology launched in 2009, Atlantic Technology has released floor-standing speakers, bookshelf models, and even a soundbar product, all with H-PAS technology inside.

"We've been very impressed with H-PAS technology," said SpeakerCraft's President Jeremy Burkhardt. "The articulate low bass response and remarkable clarity of voice are exactly what our customers want. It will be a huge benefit for custom installers to be able to move away from oversized boxes without sacrificing performance. In addition, since H-PAS uses higher resonance drivers, its' bass reproduction is exceptionally 'quick'."
