MusicLites Goes Wireless with LED Light Speakers

By Rachel Cericola

Here's a bright idea: Combine LED lighting with audio speakers. MusicLites ML-1 takes that concept to the next level by making the combination wireless.

Artison worked with Osram Sylvania to produce the new product, which made its debut at the CEDIA Expo. Designed for both commercial and consumer applications, MusicLites is the size of a BR30 light bulb, compact enough to fit into any ordinary Edison Light Socket.

Fitting inside recessed can fixtures ranging from four to six inches, MusicLites can provide the room with white light similar to a 65-watt reflector bulb. However, it does have a nice little surprise inside: a 2.75-inch loudspeaker, as well as a wireless audio receiver.

Hook the separate transmitter to almost audio source; even a portable music player. From there, the audio signal is transmitted via a proprietary 2.4GHz wireless transceiver.

Aside from a conversation starter, these units allow you to put audio into unusual places -- and it's as easy as screwing in a light bulb.

MusicLites ML-1 will sell for $300 each, with the transmitters going to $120 each. The latter includes a MusicLites remote, which can control audio settings, as well as illumination levels.

"We are excited to provide users with the ultimate experience in lighting and sound, made possible through our partnership with Artison," said Rick Leaman, president and CEO of Osram Sylvania. "With the ease of screwing in a light bulb, consumers and businesses can experience a quality, custom sound system and the most energy-efficient lighting technology."
