Accell AVGrip Locking HDMI Cables Grab the World's Attention

By Chris Chiarella

When you spend a bundle on your audio/video system, you'd understandably want to feel, y'know, secure. That's where the Accell AVGrip High-Speed Locking HDMI 1.3 Cables come in. AVGrip is rated at 6.75 Gbps, fully compatible with version 1.3 to handle high-resolution audio and 1080p video, supporting up to 36-bit Deep Color.

Once it's inserted into an HDMI port, tug on the cable itself and you'll encounter 12-14 pounds' worth of resistance. (During a demonstration at the Accell booth, they calmly showed me a medium-sized switcher box happily dangling from one of the AVGrip cables. This caused me considerable stress until I remembered that's what I see around the back of my home theater stack on any given day.) But pull back on the cable's spring-loaded connector casing and the lock releases, allowing easy removal of the HDMI plug from the component. Unlike some locking cables, AVGrip deliberately eschews buttons or screws, which either require tools to fasten/release or could be blocked by surrounding cable.

The secret to the Accell AVGrip's no-button/no-screw security lies within the spring-loaded plug.

AVGrip High-Speed Locking HDMI 1.3 Cables come in one-, two-, three-, four- and five-meter lengths, starting at $27.99. The three-thru-five-meter cables are UL Listed and CL3 rated, suitable for in-wall installation.
