Eric decides to go out with a bang. He argues to his friends that as Generation X'ers they missed out on the free love of the 60s, and their own sexual awakenings coincided instead with the buzz-killing spread of AIDS. Therefore having an orgy would be their long-deserved sexual liberation.
Not surprisingly this idea is not met with enthusiasm. Aside from Eric and his best buddy Mike (Tyler Labine), only Sue (Michelle Borth) agrees to it. As the movie progresses, the remaining friends gradually come around to the idea, for largely expedient reasons. The one remaining complication to Eric's plan is Kelly (Leslie Bibb), the realtor who becomes both his antagonist and love-interest.
Being orgy newbies, Eric and Mike go about researching how to have one. In addition to reading books and watching movies, they visit a swinger's club. The criteria for joining this club seems to be that no one would want to see you naked. Like too many scenes in "A Good Old-Fashioned Orgy," this one is neither titillating nor amusing.
Jason Sedeikis brings some charm to the role, which is all it requires. Tyler Labine comes across as a Jack Black knockoff, and spends an unfunny amount of time in a thong. Will Forte and Lucy Punch provide some laughs as the somewhat older friends, Glenn and Kate, who get married just before the orgy and then find themselves outside their former social circle.
Written and directed by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy" is oddly anti-climactic. Not unlike watching a porn movie, you'll want to fast-forward through much of the one-dimensional characters' dialogue. What makes it unlike porn is that you'll want to skip the sex scenes as well.
