The TH-50PX80U features native 1366x768 resolution (better than 720p), but it also supports 1080i and 1080p inputs from devices such as HD satellite receivers, cable boxes and Blu-ray Disc players for maximum compatibility with present and future source components. The set features 5 high definition compatible inputs (2 component video, 3 HDMI), a "Game Mode" for excellent gaming performance and a new anti-reflective screen filter to cut down on ambient light glare and reflection.
The built-in ATSC tuner allows you to tune in free digital and high definition broadcasts over the air using a normal UHF/VHF antenna (and this will continue to work beyond the digital transition in February, 2009). Native contrast is rated at 15,000:1 and dynamic contrast is rated at 1,000,000:1 (which is a little silly since that exceeds the scope of any measurement devices). Suffice it to say that it has great black levels that will leave most LCD TVs in the dust.
