Like all current Sony 3D TVs, you'll need a few add-ons to use this set's 3D features. Of course, you'll need 3D glasses, as well as Sony's 3D Sync Transmitter. Both are sold separately, or you can get them packaged up in Sony's 3D Deluxe Starter Kit. For $399.99, this includes the transmitter, two pairs of 3D glasses, and a Blu-ray 3D of Alice in Wonderland. To watch the movie, you'll also need a Blu-ray 3D player, such as Sony's BDPS770.
If you're not ready to add on the player, there is 3D content out there -- somewhere. In between events and movie offerings, this set can deliver 2D content with a crystal-clear full 1080p HD image. Other features include Dynamic Edge LED backlighting, Motionflow PRO 240Hz technology, and four HDMI inputs.
The KDL40HX800 can also tap into Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, and other added entertainment through Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video feature. This does require a broadband connection. If you want to go wireless, you'll need to add in Sony's UWA-BR100 USB adapter, which is sold separately.
